New York’s Café Grumpy Puts Conversation at the Top of the Menu
“In a city where people type text messages while walking down the street, Café Grumpy is a haven for those who want to practice the almost forgotten art of face to face conversation. Located in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, it is a place where laptops are banned, cell phone calls are infrequent, and the sound of people talking to each other over fine cups of coffee fills the air.”

Happy New Year!

A big thank you to all of our customers and coffee friends for your support in 2009. This past busy year, we are proud to have launched our in-house roastery, opened our third cafe in Park Slope and won TONY’s Eat Out Award. We are also appreciative of simple moments we had like sharing conversations over tasty warm beverages with friends and co-workers.
We are looking forward to a great 2010 with more house-roasted coffees (including a gem from Colombia coming in January), guest coffees from our friends around the country, extended hours and more adventures.
We are open in Chelsea and Park Slope until 6pm on New Years Eve and will re-open at all three locations at 8am sharp on January 2nd, 2010.
Wishing you all a happy, peaceful and successful New Year from all of us at Café Grumpy!

Talking over coffee
Our regulars are used to a lot of activity at the cafés. Most of it goes unnoticed or undocumented, but I wanted to share this special one with you. Last week, our Chelsea store was the setting of an interview with Gabourey Sidibe from the movie “Precious.” If you haven’t seen the movie yet, check it out.
