Cafe Grumpy Field Day 2009

About a month ago, Cheryl had a crazy idea to host an end of summer “Field Day” in hope of raising money for a new air conditioner for our Greenpoint cafe. I think standing in front of a hot espresso machine with a small fan nearby was getting to be too much for everybody.

This past Sunday was a great day filled with sunshine, lemonade, Shinto’s awesome face-painting, Cheryl and Shaak in the dunk-tank and Joseph’s popcorn station.

As the day went on, we realized that it had turned into more of a staff party and that our hope of selling lots of raffle tickets had dissipated. By the end of the day, we probably didn’t even raise enough money to pay for the candy apples.

But guess what happened later that night? A thoughtful customer who had seen our Field Day flyer, sent me an email with a link to an ad on Craigslist for a large and FREE air-conditioner! Needless to say, we picked it up the next morning.

We look forward to a cooler coffee shop next summer and more parties to come!
