Gethumbwini Estate

Pineapple, white tea, red grapefruit & molasses.

Gethumbwini Estate is located between the Kiama and Thika Rivers in Central Province, Kenya. SL-28 and SL-34 varieltals grown at 1800 masl in rich red volcanic soil. The coffee cherries are harvested and processed the same day on the farm’s depulper. Employing the washed process and slow fermentation to remove the cherry’s skin and mucilage, the coffee is then dried on raised beds.

Abundant wildlife is found on the Estate and the farm members are educated about the importance of preserving these species which include snakes, hares, owls, weaver birds, hawks and hippos. Employees and their families are provided with a number of benefits including full medical care and schooling.

“Blind Assessment: Deeply sweet and deeply pungent with round, complexly rich Kenya fruit: grapefruit, black currant, strawberry, supported by an undercurrent of fresh-cut fir. Ringing, resonant acidity, syrupy mouthfeel, flavor-saturated finish.

Who Should Drink It: Simply a superb coffee, as grand as it is balanced and inviting, as fine with milk as it is black.”

Fairview Estate (Peaberry)

Jammy aroma. Flavors of strawberry, red plum and papaya.

From the Central Highlands, 1750 meters above sea level comes our new Kenyan coffee. The Fairview Estate is a very well established farm growing coffee for over 80 years. On this 300 acre farm overseen by Mr. Kimata, our lot, of the SL-28 variety, is a very specific portion; only the peaberries! After being washed and de-pulped our lot is collected over three individual sortings two mechanically and one by hand. A fourth sorting also happens on the drying beds to remove any defects while the coffee is still in parchment. The Fairview Estate pays attention to every detail of the process from irrigation and fertilization to the well being of the employees.

Utz Certified.

“Blind Assessment: Sustained fruit- and floral-toned aroma and flavor, displaying notes of dried apricot, orange and honey. Tartly fruit-toned acidity and silky mouthfeel with flavor carrying deeply into the finish.”

“Blind Assessment: Lush, berry-sweet aroma with notes of honey, aromatic wood, and night flowers. In the cup, lightly syrupy mouthfeel, bright acidity, with an orangy sweet citrus character complicated by continued suggestions of berry and aromatic wood. A very mild astringency distracts from an otherwise sweet, fruit-toned finish.”
